- Ineos Brittania (UK) stand 4 – O up over Alinghi Red Bull Racing (Swiss).
Some update information. Ineos Britannia, the winners of the Round Robin series are the official challengers to Emirates Team New Zealand. The French team Orient Express are out and have been sent home. This leaves just four teams to compete in the semi finals of the Louis Vuitton cup. The challenge is to win this cup in order to challenge Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup for “The Old Mug”.
As the official challenger to Emirates Team New Zealand, Ineos Britannia get to choose which team to race against in the semi finals and have the starboard side entry at the start of each race. Ineos Britania chose Alinghi Red Bull Racing and as of today have won 4 out of the 9 races. The winner is the first to 5 wins. Alinghi Red Bull have likewise won 4 out of the 9 races. The two winners advancing to the Louis Vuitton Cup Final. The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup is the first team to score seven points and will then face Emirates Team New Zealand in the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup.

The wind conditions for race day 2 were at the top end with 18 – 20 knots of breeze and the AC75’s were really flying with speeds reaching 50kn. The job was to keep the speeds down because when the foils are travelling through the water at speeds over 45kn, this can cause cavitation on the upper surface and can creat more drag than lift.
