Yacht Racing with the CBYA
The CBYA now gives members the opportunity to take part in yacht racing at a number of levels, from Dinghy racing at El Portet Beach Moraira, TOM 28 match racing in Calpe, Beneteau Plato (Farr 25) Match and Five-Clubs racing in Altea and our Corby 45 Premier Ocean yacht for Offshore races.
WHAT YOU'll DO
The CBYA runs a Stepped Training Program to take members from first steps on a Dinghy, to training to sail on a TOM or Beneteau Plate right up to offshore and ocean sailing on our Corby 45. We have several members who are RYA commercial sailing instructors and RCNC approved skippers, who will take out CBYA members who are interested in learning how to sail these exciting boats.
TOMs ladder racing

We run Spring and Autumn TOMs Ladder series each year at Calpe to introduce less-experienced sailors to racing. Typically we race with white sails only (no spinnakers). The ladder results are accumulated over the year to decide the overall winner.

Beneteau Platu25 racing

Sailing novices will definitely learn basic sailing skills well aboard Platu25 because every single move of the body, every inch of pulled or eased sheet and even the slightest wind change will be reflected on the movement of the yacht. Intermediate sailors who have already spent some time under sails (of a cruiser) will improve their sailing senses, while experienced sailors will get an extra opportunity to measure the skills of their competitors when sailing Platu25.

CLUB & OCean Racing

We run everything from a fun day out, to an offshore racing experience. On our Corby 45 you can Race and WIN. Take part in a Five-Clubs regatta, sail in an FVCV Offshore competition or across the Atlantic Ocean – Incisor can do it all. Incisor has kevlar racing sails, a carbon fibre must and a carbon extendable bowsprit for its all asymetric spinnakers, making her great to sail with a smaller crew.

The Yachts

TOM 28. Owned by Real Club Nautico Calpe. These yachts are fun and easy to sail. We use them for training, for club regattas (white sails) and in organised RCNC events.

Beneteau Platu 25. Owned by Altea Club Nautico. These yachts are fun and more competitive. Capable of inshore racing. we use them for training, for club regattas and in organised SomVela  events

ORC Corby 45 Class 1 racing yacht. This yacht is sailed with a crew of 8 to 10. It can be used to cruise offshore, for advanced sail training and raced against the best in SomVela regattas e.g. 5 Clubs, Peñon Ifach, round Formentera etc.

FAQs

Non-slip and non-marking sailing shoes, sailing gloves, sun-glasses, water, sun-block, hat, and a change of clothes would be advisable.

Anything of value that you do not need to take with you! Mobile phones, credit cards, driving licence, money, etc. should be left in the car. Car keys can be brought on board in a dry bag.

The CBYA requires all sailors to wear a life jacket, or a buoyancy aid, when sailing on all yachts. Buoyancy jackets are available for loan at the Real Club Náutico Calpe and onboard the racing yacht.

The CBYA recommend that everyone takes out insurance to cover sailing. A Carnet Diportivo or Licencia Deportista can be purchased from SomVela that covers all types of sailing and racing. RCNC requires everyone sailing on a TOMs purchase insurance via a Licensia Federativa. Click HERE for details.
