2022 CBYA Regatta – Fundraising and the Chairman’s Charity Challenge

Good news! Looks like we will have at least FIVE entrants for the Chairman’s Charity Challenge Cardboard Boat Race on Wednesday 5th October during the 2-day CBYA Regatta. One of the entrants will be Gillian Ashworth, skippering Nautilus II, – she has already raised over 500€ in sponsorship money! If all the participants in the Challenge start soliciting sponsorship now, we could be making a pretty healthy donation to our 2022 supported charities.

Paul Glavin has kindly volunteered to organise the Cardboard Boat Race on the day, and Helen and Paul Nicholls have agreed to assist as in-water safety cover, and with wreckage retrieval duty. We plan to also provide additional safety cover at the mark using the Dinghy Section inshore safety boat – volunteers are requested to man the safety boat.

This is how the event will be run:

1100 hours – cardboard boat entries arrive at El Portet beach and are carried down to the beach near the slipway and Restaurant El Portet.

1130 – 1200 hours – scrutineers inspect boats to ensure no cheating and that the rules have been followed!

1200 – 1300 hours – last minute assembly and preparation to go to sea.

1300 hours – each entrant completes a timed circuit around a mark placed 100 metres off from the beach.

The fastest wins. There will also be a prize for the most spectacular sinking!

1600 hours – prize presentation by the Mayor of Teulada-Moraira.

There will be an entrance fee of 10€ per boat to help defray our expenses. Our Treasurer will collect payment in cash before the event.
