Yacht sail training on S/Y TANIT

On 13 July 2021,  Amanda Topson, Debs Hogarth, James Heather and Monique Neyzen tried out S/Y Tanit, a Beneteau 35.1, with a view to using it for sail training and racing in the 5 Clubs Regattas.   Tanit is owned by Blue Charter, based in Altea Marina.  Our instructor and owner of Blue Charter Altea, Carlos Montes, spent an afternoon putting us through our paces using the fish farm as a training ground. The 17 knot westerly built to 20+ knots and provided exciting conditions as we took turns helming upwind and downwind and practising manoeuvres to work together as a team.  Our sometimes shaky grasp of some of the more technical sailing terms in Spanish led to a few ‘messy’ moments, so work is also needed on our communication skills!

Blue Charter is looking like a promising option for our embryonic racing team (and maybe other opportunities too). We hope to get a few more training days in before the first 5 Clubs race out of Moraira in September 2021 – and swot up on our sailing terms in Spanish too!
