Christmas Party Update

Today is the last day to book your place at the CBYA Christmas Party 2024. Bookings are still being taken up until 5pm on the 9th December. After this time, you will not be able to attend. This is our premier event of the year and in case you missed the newletters, is being held at the Oceana Bar and Restaurant in Benissa/Calpe. The club members have dined at this restaurant once in the summer, and the food and wine were stunning. We are therefore sure that those who attends this occasion will have a super time. There’s live music, a disco and a raffle with some fantastic prizes (all proceeds from the raffle to go to the club’s nominated charity, Make a Smile). If you want to book, you can do so on the event’s link: https://cbya.org/event/cbya-christmas-party-14th-december-2024/

Dinghy Day and the Weather Gods

Wednesday is Dinghy Day, the day it seems that the winds blow and the rains fall. We continue to schedule dinghy days, but it always seems to be fine on Tuesday or Thursday, but foul on Wednesdays! There are two more dinghy days left this year; 11th and 18th December, and then we pack up for the winter break. Let’s hope for better weather so we can get all 6 boats out on the water. We will restart Dinghy Day again on the 22nd January.

When we restart next year, will will have our new safety boat operational; our Rigiflex, towed all the way from the UK and imported by Steve Day. This really is the best there is and a tremendous asset to the club. The club has also found an almost brand new 15hp outboard motor to go on it (from the boat yard in Calpe Marina), and has come to an arrangement with Moraira Club Náutico, who are going to let us launch the safety boat from their slipway each Wednesday afternoon, at no cost! We have to thank Peter Bird, who helped broker the deal with Club Náutico Moraira, and Steve Day for bringing it here

2025 is going to see an exciting change to Dinghy Day. Club Náutico Moraira also have three 420 dinghies and they would like to hold a regatta in El Portet to race against us. Our three 420 dinghies are now fully operational after a lot of repair work, and in the new year, we will start dinghy racing practice around the buoys. If you want to race, or learn to race, we have some very skilled skippers who will be happy to show you how. This all starts in January, so keep an eye out for the newsletters, and don’t forget to book.

El Dia de los Inocentes TOMs Regatta Calpe

We will, once again, be taking part in this fun event on the 28th December.

RCNC has organised a TOMs Fancy Dress Sail on December 28th, the day that Spain celebrates the Día de los Santos Inocentes (Day of the Holy Innocents). It is the Spanish version of April Fools, when people play pranks and jokes throughout the day. We will be taking part in the event again this year.

The format is that crews turn up in some kind of fancy dress  (una disfraz en español), and we run three simple races around the marks. We will ask RCNC to invite their TOMs sailors to join the fun, and will probably also request them to run the race for us. We will also arrange a lunch after the racing.

This will not involve any serious racing, and depending on who signs up to sail, we will sail with white sails only (no spinnakers) to make it easier for less-experienced crew. We need a minimum of three TOMs sailing to run the event. We have the skippers, so why not sign up to join us?
