“History of the Real (and Virtual) Volvo Ocean Race” Presentation

On Monday, September 25, members of the CBYA enjoyed an extremely interesting presentation by Hugh Epsom regarding the history of the Volvo Ocean Race. The videos that Hugh provided gave the audience the most extreme views of what the VOR teams go through during their nine month long race around the world.

As the next Volvo Ocean Race (13th edition) is starting this year out of Alicante on Sunday, October 22, the presentation provided a very topical conversation, and perked up the ears of all interested members in attendance to the presentation. The excitement of the VOR continues to build within the CBYA, as a timely scheduled trip to Alicante to visit and tour the Team Vestas racing yacht, and visit of the race village, is soon to be announced!

Hugh also explained in intriguing detail how CBYA members can participate in the virtual Volvo Ocean Race, which takes place simultaneously with the real race, in real time and using the VOR’s real wind conditions. The CBYA has entered a group of racing yachts in the last two virtual racing editions, and there are some very excited CBYA members, with myself very much included, who are looking forward to the challenge of participating in the virtual VOR racing this year!!

A delicious tapas meal was served at the nearby bar Restaurant Area 1 next to the Jávea Players Studio theatre which ended the evening on a high note.

For anybody who missed this exciting event, there is still another chance to attend this presentation on Monday, October 2, at RCNC in Calpe.
