Charity subscription

It is quickly approaching the festive season, and our minds turn to feasting and celebrations, and mistletoe and gifts. But it is also a time to spare a though for those less fortunate, for whom without charity would have no Christmas.  The CBYA has as its nominated charity, Make a Smile, which makes sure that children in care have the very basics of living at least. The state pays for these children’s basic needs, but does not provide the simplest of things, like toothbrushes and sanitary items, or days out, or especially not at this time of year, a gift for Christmas. You can make a difference to a child’s happiness.

Last year the club gave 750€ to Make a Smile, with a pre-season gift of 500€ in November to help fund Christmas for these poor little mites. This was raised entirely from donations from members at social events.

The club recognises that not everyone is able to attend social events, such as charity walks and raffles, and are therefore denied the opportunity to donate to our worthy supported cause. The CBYA has a product that members can buy at any time to make an annual donation by subscription. This can cost as little as 5€ a year and will make a difference. 100% of all money donated will go to our charity volunteers, making sure that all of your donations go to helping the children. This product can be found by logging onto the CBYA website, and clicking Shop.

Once logged on you will find the Charity Donation product. If you click on this product you can take out an annual subscription for 5, 10, 20 or 50 euros, which will be collected each year until you cancel (cancel anytime using the cancel subscription option under My Membership).

Please take time to review and purchase this product. Just click here. Your money will go to a good cause.

5-Clubs and Trofeo Pata Negra, Campomanes 16-17th November

Club members took part in the 5-Clubs and Trofeo Pata Negra racing last weekend. The Pata Negra day 1 and the 5-Clubs were run coincidently on the Saturday with the second day of the Pata Negra trophy being held on Sunday. Only one CBYA member’s boat competed; Sapphire owned and skippered by John Mackney, and crewed by Chris Engels, Hugh Epsom, Connie and Simon Forster, Allen Bradley and Beatriz Real.

The crew, who are still learning the skills of yacht racing sailed valiantly in a very competitive class, but only managed to finish 5th.

Club members that also sailed, on other yachts, included Barry McCrae, Richard Jones, Karen Gardner and Fernando Moneta.
