A cloudy Monday morning on 7th October and the first CBYA charter day after the summer takes place.

Eight CBYA members, with varying sailing experience, met at the bar Mala Vita in the Marina de Dénia at 10am. At the boat (a 44 ft. Sun Odyssey), we met local skipper Paul, a young Spaniard who speaks some English.
Although not very windy at first, the weather report forecast strong SSW winds with gusts up to 50km around midday. The skipper set sail cautiously, and we sailed quite close to the cliffs to Jávea. After reaching and crossing Jávea bay, the crew elected to moor in a sheltered spot between Cala Blanca and Cala Sardinera. By now the sun had made an appearance; packed lunches were brought out, and a few hardy souls went for a swim, accompanied by numerous fish.

After lunch some skills such as helming, tacking and gybing were honed by those who wanted to try this in the relative safety of Jávea bay. The journey back to Dénia was approached cautiously under reefed sails. Under the skipper’s watchful eye the crew to sailed back to the marina.

Everyone enjoyed the day’s sailing immensely and complimented the skipper on his good care. A very satisfactory outing.
