Charter Day Sail – 27th March 2023.

The boat chartered was a very nice 6-year old, Jeanneau Odyssey 44.9

The day started well. We all met at 10am at Bar Marla Vita, on the wall at Marina de Dénia, where we had a good view of the wind and sea condition. The crew was Jim Cooper, Mitch Yount, Helen Merchant, Ben Woodcock, and Kevin Drake. All had plenty of varied sailing experience.

The forecast was good, after monitoring it for the previous 7 days, it was spot on.
The wind started from the North at 9knots, building gradually throughout the day, to 14-15knots, and veering NE, then East by 2pm, and at 4pm South 16knots. The sea condition varied with the wind strength and direction, varying from 1 to 2 metres.

Initially we headed NE, enjoying a very good sail, SOG of about 6-7 knots. Later to the East and then South, averaging 6-7 knots most of the time. As is the norm, we had lunch on the move, with each of the crew take a good turn on the helm.

Returning to the marina berth proved rather testing! As the wind was at its strongest of the day, blowing over 16 knots from the south, and making the 150 metre reverse into our slot rather challenging!!

After a great day sailing, we rounded it off with a well-earned beer (wine for Helen).
