Jemila WINS Sportsman Regatta Trophy in the 33rd PITIUSIS 2022

29 September to 2 October 2022.

Three days racing round Ibiza? Sounds exciting, few days passed and the serious thinking and planning started, as usual crew is important, and this one is a bit more than a one day jolly.
David said he will fly down from Scotland and stay with me to do Alicante- Ibiza and back. With such a longish trip and three full on days racing I thought I should have five crew including me, so three more. I invited Alec & Helen sailing bodies in the Solent, Helen said their son Alfie would love to join. David and Alfie made it to Alicante and then on to Ibiza with me. Ryan air cancelled the flight to Mallorca, so Helen and Alec couldn’t make it . I am already here, so without too much thinking I decided to carry on.
Ist day Friday 29 September 2022 Ibiza to St Antonio 37 miles, started well but strong wind 18 – 26 NW made it to first gate near Tagomago island, then the waves 4-5 m got bigger and wind stronger, its tiring dealing with waves, so turns on the helm, Jemila and crew handled it well but some moments of doubt crept in as to will we ever make it round the headland? Too many of them North of the island. We did.
Day 2 back to Ibiza Town very little wind so was hard to make headway with cruising heavy boat, we did not win, but we, to our complete surprise, did something better we won the Sportsman Regatta Trophy. Another highlight was we caught 6 Fish I cooked one. Got back to Alicante after a bit of drama on whether we had enough fuel ? Total 3 night sails in 5 days. Would I do it again ? Absolutely. Much fun had by all with too many stories.

Just noticed this !! I too had a good time, but with only 3 of us it was pretty intense that first day in heavy sea and wind, but we made it around to Sant Antonio before dark. Second day easy, but difficult to get going in 6/ 7 knt wind !
I met up with friends on Ibiza on free day, and likewise enjoyed the fishing and maths calculations to guesstamate what fuel we still had in the tank !!
