CBYA-member Jim Mack has organised a 2-day sailing regatta at the Real Club Náutico de Calpe every year for the last 3 – 4 years. This year’s event took place on Sunday 18th and Monday 19th March.

CBYA & RCNC members joined Jim and his sailing friends for the first day.

Sunday was a team event with six mixed crews comprising five sailors on each TOM, and two teams with three crews in each team. The teams were “Cherubs“, flying blue flags and “Ospreys” flying yellow flags.

Skipper Edo forgot which team he was on and tried to force his fellow team member Jim over the line at the start of one race! His excuse was that dementia is setting in!

We completed three races. Pablo kindly acted as Race Officer, and Roger Buckle provided the floating spectator platform.

The “Cherubs” won by one point!

Monday saw testing conditions with gusty wind shifts and choppy seas. The teams managed to sail three races with white sails only.  Six TOM crews competed for the overall prize for the winning crew sailing a variation of a normal liga course with the start line acting as a gate for windward leg and also the finish line.

The first TOM out of the marina was accompanied by a small pod of dolphins swimming alongside.

During one race, a certain TOM crew was observed trying to drag the pin mark to Ibiza!

Alan Mason and Jenny Rawle’s team secured two firsts and a second to win the days event overall. Kirsty Roper won a special award as youngest sailor.

The whole weekend was a big success, with no significant incidents beyond normal racing events, and more importantly no injuries.

Many thanks to Pablo and his team at RCNC who helped to make the event another great weekend.

Thanks Jim for organising this event.
