CBYA Raft-Up – Tango Bay, Javea – 22 July 2016
The third CBYA raft-up of 2016 took place on Friday 22 July 2016.
Two yachts (Royal Atenea & Feels Great) and two motor boats (Rosbif II and For the Boys) participated. We agreed to meet at the Tango Bay moorings due to the northerly winds, thus securing a more sheltered spot.
Gillian & I were sailing for the first time on the 60 foot Jongert, Royal Atenea, crewed and owned by Julie & Tony Benneworth. We were joined by their friends Shelley, Chris and their three children. Ron & Fay Shanson, the owners of Feels Great, had some family members, including Vicky Power (yes, back in town for a couple of months before her next adventure!) and Karlheinz Witte, as crew. Rosbif II, was crewed by owners, Rosie & Mike Sparshatt-Worley, together with their two grand-daughters, Clara & Anna, and For the Boys, was crewed by owners, Jacki & Gary Mudge, together with Sally & Darrell Clayton.
With a fair breeze, we enjoyed a fairly fast passage under sail from Denia to Tango Bay on Royal Atenea. Unfortunately, she experienced a mechanical problem on arrival which meant we had to drop anchor and Tony spent most of the day in the engine room! The Marine Police came to point out we had to use a mooring buoy, not anchor in the Marine Reserve, so Gillian explained our dilemma. Gary & I were dispatched to shore to source some bolts, but unfortunately the only available ones of the correct diameter were too long!
The rest of us had a great time swimming, chatting, and consuming an excellent picnic lunch!
After Tony had completed his temporary repair, we set sail to return to Denia late afternoon with limited engine power, eventually arriving back safely in the marina just before 22.00.
Another fun day out with the CBYA!
