We have a CBYA Assistant Treasurer!

Categories:

I am delighted to announce that we now have an Assistant CBYA Treasurer, who has agreed to come on board and help reduce the load on our long-time Treasurer, Sue Bell.

Our Assistant Treasurer is CBYA member, Sally Clayton, and she will be supported by CBYA member, Samir Chami (an accountant) on an ad-hoc basis.

Many thanks to both Sally & Samir for stepping up to help!

Sun Odyssey 45.2 available for Yacht Share

Categories:

CBYA members, David and Felicity King, are offering their Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2, S/Y Poog, for a potential yacht share agreement. They bought the yacht new in 2003, and sailed her around the Caribbean until 2016, when they brought her to Spain. Since arriving, extensive upgrades have been carried out, including new state of the art navigation equipment, bow thruster, thorough engine overhaul, new main, new Bimini, new spray hood and fenders. Elements of the rigging, and the sea cocks, were also replaced this year. She was surveyed earlier this year, whilst being anti fouled, and was found to be in good shape.

The yacht is moored at Marina de Dénia, and is looked after by A&P Marine.

See more yacht details by clicking HERE.

Apart from visits of a couple of weeks, perhaps two or three times a year, they only plan to be in Spain during the first three month of every year. They are therefore looking for one, or more, yacht-loving CBYA members, who have the necessary sailing qualifications, to join a yacht-sharing agreement in order to allow more value to be enjoyed from their ownership of S/Y Poog. They would also welcome others to sail with them when they are in Spain – no experience required, as both Felicity and David have been sailing since childhood.

NOTE: The CBYA and its officers accept no responsibility for the quality, performance or legality of members boats. It is important that members make their own enquiries, and use their own judgement as to whether or not to invest or purchase.

If you are interested in either proposition, please contact David King by calling 0044 7768864439, or by e-mailing by clicking HERE.

Face Masks Now Mandatory Whenever in Public Places

Categories:

The Minister of Public Health for the Comunidad de Valencia, Ana Barceló, announced last week that, due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, the use of face masks is now mandatory throughout the Valencian Community for people over six years old, even if the safety distance of one and a half meters can be maintained. The wearing of masks is required in all areas, except beaches, swimming pools and natural areas, and will apply to everyone except children under 6 years of age, or people with respiratory problems. Barceló clarified that surgical and hygienic ones must be used, and that those with respiratory valves are not allowed, except for work reasons. From now on it will be mandatory to wear masks at restaurant terraces when you are not eating or drinking. The maximum capacity of the terraces stays at 75%, and the maximum occupancy will be 20 people per table

Due to the COVID-19 virus many things have changed, and the organisation of the CBYA is no exception. ALL members are now required to complete a Member Update Form BEFORE they can attend any CBYA event, social, sea or land-based. The form is the same as for new membership but you select Member Update from the first drop-down menu instead of New Membership Application.

CBYA CRYSTAL JUBILEE – JULY INTERVIEW – RICHARD JONES

Categories:

You are a very active member of CBYA, so it is great to get your perspective on the club – please tell me why you joined?

I was considering buying a yacht, so I needed to speak with sea-going, like-minded people. The CBYA was the only English-speaking option at that time.

What was a memorable first experience of the CBYA?

Good turn out for last Dinghy Day before the Summer shutdown!

Categories:

Many thanks to all who came yesterday, sailed, drank, helped, and provided safety cover. We had a great day with all four boats out, which presented some interesting and amusing incidents for the assembled drinking watchers!

Starting an hour later worked, the beach and cafes were not so busy, and it was almost 7pm before we eventually left a beautiful evening at Paradise Beach.

Someone suggested we should have some social evenings whilst Dinghy Days are suspended, which I will try and organise. Dinghy Days will start again in September.

Hope to see some of you down for a social evening when I arrange it. Watch this space.

Dinghy Section Co-ordinator

More Day Cruises on Tricky D!

Categories:

TrickyD and I are offering the following day cruise dates:

  • Monday 27th July

  • Tuesday 28th July

  • Wednesday 29th July

I intend having a maximum of five (5) crew on board. This will give fifteen (15) crew a chance to get on the water. These will be hands-on sailing days, but no experience is necessary, as there will be an experienced skipper on board.

Depending on the sea conditions we usually head south, enjoying the beautiful coast line, and the wonderful scenery.

You will need to bring some lunch, drinks and correct sailing footwear.

Sailing will start at 1030 hours, meeting at Bar Due (near the Republic Restaurant) at Marina de Dénia, and returning at around 1700 hours.

So why not join TrickyD and I on one or more of these days? You will be made very welcome.

For further information and what to do next, please e-mail me, Richard Jones, by clicking HERE.

Happy Sailing Days!

Richard
